70 Degrees Warmer for Second Marathon In Challenge today

Gary Thornton (IRL) wins Africa Intercontinental Marathon (Cape Town) in 3:06:55 today. It’s his second marathon in 24 hours as part of the 2018 World Marathon Challenge. The temperature today was degrees 72 Fahrenheit , which is 70 degrees warmer than the windchill temperatures in Antarctica yesterday. Becca Pizzi wins second consecutive marathon in 4:11:15. American’s Becca Pizzi wins the First Marathon - Six to Go by Feb 5

American's Becca Pizzi was the overall winner of the 2016 World Marathon Challenge. Today she won the Antarctic Intercontinental Marathon (the first of seven) in a time of 4:06:45. In second was Renee DeMarsh(USA) 4.28.10, third Gulzhamal DeFelice (RUS/USA)4.38.03, fourth Meghan Newcomer (USA) 4.41:14, and fifth Cara Nelson (USA) 4:50:15. For men, Gary Thornton (IRL) won in a time of 2.58.39 today. Gary ran an amazing sub 3 hour time. Bob Hodge Looks Back on Winning the 1982 Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon

Bob Hodge is one of only a few Americans to ever win a marathon in Japan, earning the lifelong nickname "Hodgie-san." Ahead of this weekend's Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon Hodge wrote, “Japan is a fantastic place for a racer to run a marathon. Most of the top races there invite a smallish contingent of foreign runners, and I considered myself fortunate to be competing in Japan for the second time. Beppu is a beautiful place on the coastline of the southern island of Kyushu. One more race to go: Jeannie Pardy prepares for Tokyo marathon

Jeannie Pardy has been running for 20 years and participating in marathons for ten. She runs 30 miles a week. Now she is preparing for a race that will mark a significant milestone in her career. She is preparing to run the Tokyo Marathon on Feb. 25; when she completes it, she will be the first person in Central Newfoundland Canada to complete all the Abbott World Marathon Majors. Pinkowski will receive Achievement Award from the Chicago runners Association

The Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) today announced Carey Pinkowski Executive Race Director of the BofA Chicago Marathon will receive the 2017 CARA Lifetime Achievement Award on February 3, 2018. The CAAR Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the Chicago running community. Carey came to the helm of the Marathon almost three decades ago. "When I started, Chicago was not a running city. It was a challenge to get people to accept it. Marathon runners back then were thought of as extreme athletes. Olympian Alexi Pappas to Run 2018 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon

Alexi Pappas, a Greek-American who holds dual citizenship, is a 2016 Olympian and the Greek national record holder in the 10,000 meters with a personal best of 31:36 set at the Rio Olympics. Kigen, and Kandie of Kenya wiill Headline Napoli City Half Marathon

Nobert Kigen and Felix Kandie of Kenya headline a men’s pro field aiming for a sub-60 minute performance at the fifth Napoli City Half Marathon in Naples, Italy. February 4 will mark the fifth edition of the race and the second under the direction of Carlo Capalbo, a native of Napoli who serves as chairman of the IAAF Road Running Commission, and the president of the RunCzech Organization. Loon Mounain Race is One Tough Hill Climb

The Collegiate Running Association has announced the fifth-annual Collegiate Mountain Running National Championships will take place on July 8, 2018, at the Loon Mountain Race (10.62K), in Lincoln, New Hampshire. Additionally, this year’s event will host the 15th annual North American, Central American & Caribbean (NACAC) Mountain Running Championships. 4 of the fastest 7 women to race RAK Half Marathon

World record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei and London Marathon champion Mary Keitany are among the star-studded women’s field named for the RAK Half Marathon on February 9. Four of the fastest seven women in history will line up for United Arab Emirates half marathon, with another seven sub-68 minute runners alongside them. Kenya’s Jepkosgei set the world record for the half marathon twice in 2017 after finishing third in RAK last year and lines up alongside fellow Kenyan stars Keitany, Fancy Chemutai and Edith Chelimo. Michael Wardian World Marathon Challenge Record Might Be Unbeatable

Michael Wardian is an American marathoner and ultra-marathon. He is not running the World Marathon Challenge this year but his record he set in 2017 is going to be hard for anyone to beat. He averaged 2:45:57 for each of the seven marathons. Additionally he ran the fastest ever time (2:31:09 average) for all the Abbott World Marathon Majors (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York). World Marathon Challenge 7 Marathons in 7 Days On all 7 Continents starts in a few hours

The 2018 World Marathon Challenge is due to start on schedule in Antarctica tomorrow, January 30th. A Boeing 757 VIP plane will fly competitors the 4,200km journey south from Cape Town to Novo on the frozen continent. (Present temperature is -2F) The race is scheduled to start at 15:00 Cape Town time. 30,000 runners are expected to enter the Bangkok Marathon

An estimated 30,000 runners from around the world are expected to enter the inaugural Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok on February 4. The event presented by Toyota is part of a five-year agreement between Ironman, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Thailand Tri-League. There’ll be a 42.195-kilometre marathon, a 21.1km half marathon, a 10km Bangkok Bank Run and, on February 3, a 4km Family Fun Run. Also planned is a Sports and Lifestyle Expo at the Bangkok Airport. Tefera breaks world U20 indoor 1500M Record

Ethiopian teenager Samuel Tefera provided the unexpected highlight of the Meeting Elite en Salle de Leure in Val de Reuil, when he broke the world U20 indoor 1500m record with a world-leading 3:36.05. Tefera, who represented Ethiopia at the IAAF World Championships London 2017 after winning their national trial race, was competing in the first indoor race of his burgeoning career. Matsuda Dominates in Osaka Women´s Marathon debut

Mizuki Matsuda caught and passed Honami Maeda with 12 kilometres remaining of the Osaka International Women’s Marathon before going on to win in 2:22:44 on her debut at the distance. The lead pack of two pace makers, three Japanese – Mizuki Matsuda, Honami Maeda, Yuka Ando – and Ethiopian Goytatom Gebreselassie covered the first half of the race in 1:11:59. Dubai Marathon winner only entered just Days Before

Ethiopia's Mosinet Geremew won the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon with a course record of 2:04:00 in one of the most thrilling finishes in marathon history.

The 27 year-old, who entered the race just days before, sprinted across the finish line followed by four more runners within eight seconds.

In all, seven runners clocked sub 2:05.00 with six of them no slower than 2:04:15. In near perfect weather conditions, the leading group ran a very consistent pace. After a half marathon split time of 61:36, the world record of 2:02:57 was still in reach at 30k, which was passed in 1:27:35.

However, after the last pacemaker dropped out, the pace fell and the athletes focused on winning the US$200,000 first prize.

The finish of the Dubai Marathon was the most exciting Marathon finish ever

Brigid Kosgei First Race Since Honolulu as she gets ready for London

Brigid Kosgei showed her initial preparations are going well ahead of the London Marathon with a commanding victory at the Eldoret Discovery Cross Country on Sunday. In her first race since demolishing the course record at the Honolulu Marathon in December in 2:22:15 with a big negative split of 1:10:25, Kosgei ran out triumphant by 10 seconds in the senior women’s 8km, crossing the finish-line in 27:31. High Winds Slow Down runners at Miami Marathon

More than 20,000 runners from over 80 countries hit the streets of South Florida Sunday for the Fitbit Miami Marathon. Runners faced high winds - gusts of up to 15 mph - along the route, slowing down the times of many runners. Kenyan runner Hillary Too, 38, was the first man (2:23:03). “I was aiming at 2:15 this time. But the wind was so tough," Too said. "This is why I could not run 2:15. Emmanuel Bor Becomes 500th American to Break four minutes

Roger Bannister was the first runner to run the mile in under four minutes. He ran 3:59.4 on May 6, 1954. Don Bowden (pictured) was the first American to go under four minutes. He ran 3:58.7 on June 1, 1957. According to the website LetsRun "Emmanuel Bor of the U.S. Army WCAP became the 500th American to break 4:00 in the mile, running a time (3:58.77) eerily similar to Bowden’s original mark on a bouncy, banked indoor oval at Boston University on Saturday." Manzano has made every U.S. national team for the World Championships or Olympics from 2007 to 2015. What has been some of his challenges of his career? The catalyst for Team in Training runs full marathon

Georgia Cleland was a major catalyst for the shift in endurance athletes competing for reasons far beyond themselves. her father, Bruce, launched Team in Training in 1988, and utilized the New York City Marathon to raise funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in honor of his daughter. Ice cream or frozen yogurt — which do you pick? Frozen yogurt is creamy and sweet, but healthy enough...keep in mind that fro-yo is more closely related to your favorite frosty treat than advertised — now if we stayed with plain yogurt but who does that? While a cup of soft-serve vanilla ice cream is loaded with 34 grams sugar and 102 calories, frozen yogurt trails closely behind at 36 grams sugar and 94 calories. Sugar isn't yogurt's only potential problem. Some are loaded with artery-clogging saturated fat. Check the label to make sure it has no more than 1.5 grams of saturated fat per six-ounce serving. Hong Kong 100 Ultra Runner Winner Disqalified

Runner Liang Jing crossed the finish line in 9:28:35 and in first position, but has been disqualified for receiving support outside the checkpoints, which is not permitted by the race rules. Liang Jing explained that he asked for water from a hiker and understood that he had permission to swap his empty bottle with her full one, as he pushed himself to the limits. Phil Takes On Marathon Challenge For Doddie Foundation

Former rugby player Phil Calvert has set himself a huge task of running a marathon every week for a year in support of former Scotland international Doddie Weir. The 47-year-old is originally from Ulster and played for Campbell College Belfast, Scottish Colleges Napier University and Watsonians during his own rugby days. Luel Gebresilase is the Fastest African with Experience in Japan

As reported by Japan Running News, “Dubai Marathon runner-up Leul Gebresilase is a former Tokyo Kokusai Univ runner. I believe his 2:04:02 is the fastest-ever by an African with experience in Japan as a High School, University or Corporate runner.” Only ten men have run a Marathon Faster than 24-year-old Leule Gebrselassie. Yuko Ando commands the spotlight at Osaka Women´s Marathon

Yuko Ando leads the field for the 37th Osaka Women’s Marathon, The race serves as the 102nd women’s marathon national championships and one of the Japanese marathon team’s qualifying races for the 2018 Asian Games. It’s also part of Japan’s Marathon Grand Championship series, a group of qualifying races for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic marathon team trial race. Great Tees 10K Added To Great North Run Weekend

In a move that will further expand the Great North Run weekend, organisers have confirmed the addition of a Great Tees 10K. Scheduled for Saturday 8 September, the 10k looks like it will be a cracker and has been designed to hug the banks of the Tees and will take in iconic landmarks such as the Infinity Bridge and Newport Bridge. Allie Kieffer is training at 7,700 feet in Kenya getting ready for London

Allie Kieffer (USA) has confirmed she will be running the London Marathon in April. She placed 5th 2:29:39 at the 2017 New York City Marathon. She is currently training in Iten Kenya (Elevation 7,700 feet). She is posting her workouts on Strava. Her goal for this week is 100 miles. On Monday she ran 10.6 miles at 6:11 pace with a elevation gain of 878 feet. She ran another 7.5 miles on Monday. At Dubai Marathon Seven Men Break 2:05 and four Women Break 2:20! Best Ever!

Ethiopia's Mosinet Geremew set a new Dubai Marathon record when he sprinted clear from a large group of his compatriots to claim victory in the 10th fastest marathon time ever on Friday. The 25-year-old crossed the line in 2:04:00, two seconds ahead of Leul Gebresilase with last year's winner Tamirat Tola four seconds back. Ethiopians filled the first 10 places. Roza Dereje won the women's race in 2:19:17, also a new record and personal best for the Ethiopian, ahead of compatriots Feyse Tadese, Yebrgual Melese and last year's winner Worknesh Degefa. Middle East's Biggest Mass Participantion Event Starts in a few hours

Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon start time is in a few hours from now (6am Friday in Dubai). The elite athletes (including defending champion Tamirat Tola 2:04:11) may have record-breaking ambitions following some slight changes to the route for the 19th staging of the Middle East’s biggest mass participation event on Friday. Alan Forster is one of the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon’s youngest-ever

Before Ottawa’s Alan Forster was even 10 years-old, he was an experienced marathoner. In 1979, Forster completed the National Capital Marathon when he was just nine. Then, he completed the marathon again the following year. “At the time, people couldn’t believe it,” Foster recalls almost 40 years later. “It was a big deal and I got in the newspaper. Inactivity, not running is bad for your Knees

One common injury runners experience is knee related. How bad is running on your knees? Matthew Laye (A teacher, scientist, writer, coach and Ultra runner) posted this recently on twitter, "A study done at Thomas Jefferson University found that runners have half the knee arthritis as the general population. Kenya’s Mary Keitany will attempt to break Paula Radcliffe’s world record in London

Just as Radcliffe did when she set the world record at the 2003 London Marathon, Keitany will be running with male pacemakers in her bid to run inside the Briton’s iconic mark of 2:15:25. The 36-year-old Kenyan is already the holder of the women-only marathon world record which she set by winning last year’s Virgin Money London Marathon in 2:17:01. Seb Coe Hopes Cross Country Will be Added to 2024 Olympics

"The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris would be a fitting time to see the return of cross country to the Olympic programme,” said IAAF President Sebastian Coe, who attended and participated in Sunday’s Cross de Italica in Seville.

Organisers of the IAAF World Cross Country Championships 2019 to be held in Aarhus, Denmark scheduled for 30 March 2019, says they have already promised initiatives to help guide the Championships into new territory. More news about the course will be announced soon.

Dibaba and Wanjiru added to London Marathon Fields

Organisers of the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon have confirmed that Tirunesh Dibaba and defending champion Daniel Wanjiru will return to the race on 22 April. Dibaba has twice appeared in London before and has improved with each performance. She made her marathon debut in London in 2014, finishing third in 2:20:35 before returning last year and coming second behind Mary Keitany in an Ethiopian record of 2:17:56, putting her third on the world all-time list behind Paula Radcliffe and Keitany.
